Advancing Circular Economy, a USGBC Building Transformation Forum 2025
Event Description

Maximizing the full value of materials and resources and extending product lifecycle cuts greenhouse gases, manages risk, reinvests resources locally, creates jobs and adds more value for companies and communities. Building a circular economy is a process steeped in innovative business practices and solutions and advocating for progressive policy changes to curb unsustainable consumption. In our built environment, circular economy practices may include renewable energy resources, comprehensive materials life cycle planning, adaptive reuse and ensuring a clean supply chain. Washington is at the forefront of adopting circular economy principles across the built environment, from pioneering waste diversion programs to adopting policies aimed at reducing embodied carbon, This forum will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and sustainability experts to explore how circular economy practices—such as material reuse, waste reduction, and sustainable resource management—are transforming the state’s buildings and infrastructure. Through case studies and engaging panel discussions, attendees will actively explore how circular economy strategies, policies and community-driven efforts are shaping the future of Washington's built environment.

This forum also includes a deep-dive interactive workshop with USGBC staff specializing in the TRUE rating system. Participants will be given the tools to transform their waste management plan into a commodity resource, zero-waste-based plan to create a circular economy locally and globally. Focus will be on the key components of the TRUE Rating System and on hands-on opportunities to collaborate and apply strategies directly to their own projects.

Join USGBC Washington to hear from local leaders and experts on best practices to bring your next project into the circular economy.

USGBC’s Building Transformation Forums convene industry leaders, practitioners, and sustainability professionals to learn and engage around specific, locally relevant topics. Built around growing connections and green building education, forum models adapt to meet audience needs and inspire action.
