Event Description
This seminar is intended for engineers who design and/or commission HVAC air distribution systems. It includes a discussion of popular HVAC systems followed by detailed techniques for designing and sizing ductwork, selecting and sizing fans, selecting and laying out diffusers, sizing and ducting variable air volume (VAV) boxes, and selecting coils and filters.
Part one of this series starts with a brief introduction of fundamentals of thermal comfort and the fundamentals of indoor air quality and associated ventilation requirements. Detailed descriptions and schematics of the current popular HVAC systems, air distribution fluid flow fundamentals, ductwork fabrication, and ductwork sizing and layout will be discussed.

Part two of the series starts with a discussion of noise and vibration fundamentals followed by a detailed discussion of fan types and fan selection.

Part three of the series discusses room air distribution fundamentals and how to select and lay out diffusers and return air grilles, followed by a detailed discussion of how variable air volume (VAV) boxes work and how they are sized. Finally, air handler components, such as coils and filters, are discussed along with selection recommendations.

Steve Taylor has over 40 years of commercial and institutional HVAC system design experience, the last 12 with design/build contractors before starting Taylor Engineers in 1995. With his unique combination of HVAC system design, control system design, energy conservation, indoor air quality, and commissioning expertise along with his practical, hands-on design/build experience, Mr. Taylor brings a unique perspective to any HVAC system project. Mr. Taylor is a Fellow of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
