Our Green Building News: Heard and Seen at Greenbuild 2026 & Happy Election Day!

Happy Election Day for those of us in the US! I send this news in a hopeful frame of mind. Let’s vote for the sustainable policies and world we want to live in, and are working to leave for our kids, and for everyone. We can do better, and as I heard on the main stage and across Greenbuild recently, “We ARE getting work done.”
While we may wish for more progress and feel frustrated at setbacks in a political and social environment that can seem daunting, the green building community had much to report and showcase in New York City. Especially if you could not be there, I hope I can convey a sense of what was going on. I kept looking out at the Javits Center’s amazing 6+ acre green roof and thinking it's fitting that Greenbuild was located in the home of Local Law 97, or "LL97," New York City’s landmark decarbonization legislation.
The official theme of Greenbuild this year was: “Invest for Impact,” and I appreciated this reminder that we need to lengthen our time horizons as we evaluate the costs of not building as healthy and sustainably as we can and should, and that accounting must be full. For me, I had some personal themes of optimism, community and evolution. As you may note in my Greenbuild 2026 Wrap-Up, I ran into quite a few people, and I also met new people who come from a variety of industry segments and places. Show highlights for me included hearing real excitement about how different LEED v5 is, attending sessions on both new and more familiar topics, and finding some time this year to spend more time on the Expo floor to have lengthier conversations and to hear exhibitor news and stories. Congratulations to Rate It Green Member Wasted for winning the Attendees' Choice Exhibitor Award!
I note that I haven’t sent our news out regularly recently as we have been so focused on our full renovation of Rate It Green! We are knee-deep right now in the final touches of new registration processes and profiles for Individual and Company/Organization Members. I have always maintained that you will get back out of Rate It Green a multiple of what you put in, and this will be even more true now, with options for different levels of information sharing and engagement - it’s all your choice. Write if you want some insider details!
I’ll keep this short for those who are voting (!), but let’s work together on exciting content - our rebuilt Articles and Discussions sections are already completed, and our videos section is brand new! Some recent Rate It Green member news:
- Wasted* is building a new category segment
- SCS introduced Proveriti™, an AI-assisted EPD verification platform
- ZeroEnergy Design designed a deep energy retrofit that fits beautifully in a walkable neighborhood
What is your latest news? I look forward to hearing all about it and to working with you to shout to the rooftops. And look for big Rate It Green news in the next months! Our team is working diligently to create the most open, flexible space for you to share about yourself or your organization and to learn from others in the community. Keep sending those ideas on what features you’d most like to see!
Thank you for all you do,
Allison
