Event Description

In fire, medic, and police stations, day-to-day maintenance is often a shared responsibility among on-duty personnel, with the goal of keeping facilities and equipment operational and efficient. 

GPRO Operations + Maintenance training for First Responders equips teams with practical, actionable, and affordable strategies for improving energy efficiency, reducing water use, and improving indoor air quality at their facilities. 

These strategies not only reduce utility and taxpayer costs, but also create a healthier, more comfortable working environment for team members. 

With a focus on preventative maintenance and data-driven decision-making, this three-day course will identify ways to reduce energy and water demand by addressing cleaning products, chemical use, pest management, ventilation, and filtration, and more. 

Participants will gain insights into best practices developed by facility experts as well as an opportunity to share lessons and questions with peers. 

In addition to traditional GPRO Operations + Maintenance training, this course will also include: 

• A presentation from the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works on net zero readiness and associated potential energy and cost savings, and examples of completed and under construction public safety facilities (Medic 4, Fire 8, and Fire 20/Medic 12) built to meet Passive House and the City’s net zero ready standards. 

• A brief demonstration of ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, an interactive resource management tool that enables building managers to track energy use. This process, called benchmarking, provides valuable insights into energy use patterns and can be used to guide conversations about identifying and prioritizing building improvements. 

Learning Objective - 

• Evaluate building energy and water performance 

• Identify actionable next steps to improve energy and water efficiency, and address causes of poor indoor air quality

• Learn how to effectively articulate the costs and benefits of efficiency measures, a necessary skill when advocating for improvements during budgeting and planning 

• Earn an industry-recognized professional certification, GPRO O+M, upon completion of the course and exam.
