Duct and Envelope Tightness (DET) Verification Training, Online, July 14-16, 9 am-1 pm ET
Event Description
This three-day online course is designed to introduce the skills necessary to become a Duct and Envelope Tightness (DET) Verifier, certified to perform the diagnostic testing required for new homes by the 2009 and 2012 IECC amendments (content updated for the latest Georgia 2020 energy code).
In this Certified DET Verifier course, learn the basic building science concepts and math skills related to air leakage, duct leakage, and ventilation in homes. This will allow you to conduct leakage tests in new homes as part of the IECC testing requirements for airtightness of the envelope and ductwork. Existing homes can offer retrofit sealing of ducts, walls, floors, and ceilings to improve comfort and reduce utility costs for homeowners. And will learn important protocols for blower door and duct leakage testing, as well as calculations to complete ACH50 and percent duct leakage diagnostic evaluations.
This course enables you to help builders meet state building energy codes that now require all new homes in Georgia and Alabama to be tested by a Certified DET Verifier. The DET Verifier Certification has recognition in multiple states under testing requirements for Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
An in-person evaluation will occur on the fourth day and require those attendees seeking certification to schedule a time to complete it, unless the instructor can coordinate a virtual evaluation if students have the necessary equipment. COVID-19 protocols will be enforced to ensure the safety and security of everyone involved.
Certifications: Duct and Envelope Tightness Verifier. To achieve designation as a DET Verifier, a student must receive a passing score on both exams (included in the tuition and schedule of this course).
- Evan Blalock, Field Inspector
- Brittany Williams, Technical Project Manager
